Saito has been revived, but his runes have faded away. Louise is worried since Saito is now no longer her familiar. The story features several characters from the second year class of a magic academy in a fictional magical world with the main characters being the inept mage Louise and her familiar from Earth, Saito Hiraga. Even with these abilities he doesn't defend himself at all against Louise's constant beatings. The series constantly implies him being a pervert and sometimes he does think exactly like one, but justifiably, he is a young single guy who isn't married to anyone.
Louise just enforces an ownership type arrangement over Saito implying she is owed Saito's feelings. It is later revealed that Saito has feelings for Louise and even says it openly to her. Saito also has a bit of a troublesome and somewhat complicated tendency of getting involved with women. Strange and oddly sexual things happen when he seemingly becomes intimate with another girl.
A few examples are when Kirche or even Siesta try to gain his attention, by mostly sexual seduction. When he meets or speaks to an attractive girl, he is often only noticing her chest in a few instances.
This is actually one of the main reasons why Louise treats him so poorly as he is expected to be perfect in every way in her childish mindset. Although he acts a bit perverted at times, this does not mean that he does not think of Louise. Similar to how she feels whenever he is becoming intimate with another girl specifically with large breasts Saito can get very upset when it comes to Louise and other men.
He dislikes Julio for his "snobbish" interest in Louise, especially since he is adored by all the other young girls in Tristain Academy. He becomes extremely jealous and calls him a bastard whenever he tries to touch Louise or gain her attention.
He also becomes upset he hears of Louise being married off to someone else. At the time of the summoning, he had just picked up his laptop after attempting to get it repaired in Akihabara. It is revealed that Saito, like Gandalfr, acquires mastery over any weapon he touches, as long as it is real, and not training, for example. Then there is a robbery in the magic academy, perpetrated by Fouquet , a famous thief, of whom, however, no one knows her true identity.
The stolen item is an old academy treasure, the Staff of Destruction, said to have terrible power. Once they retrieve the staff, a stone golem begins to attack them. Louise tries to destroy him with her magic, but as expected, it doesn't work. Saito then saves Louise and orders her to get away along with Tabitha and Kirche. Once they are out of harm's way, Saito begins to fight the golem, but is overcome by its power.
Seeing him in danger, Louise leaps from Sylphid Tabitha's familiar dragon , carrying the Staff of Destruction with her. Saito then takes the weapon from Louise's hands and by touching it he acquires all the knowledge about its operation. Firing the missile towards the golem, he finally manages to defeat it. It is then that Longueville reveals his true identity: Fouquet, and he had planned everything to observe how the Staff of Destruction was used.
When trying to use it against young people the weapon does not react. Saito then takes the opportunity to disable his enemy with a blow, explaining that the staff comes from his world and is a one-shot weapon. Back at the academy, both Louise and Tabitha and Kirche are greeted by Principal Osmond and Colbert, one of the academy's teachers. The three students are rewarded for recovering the stolen treasure with a dance in their honor.
However, Osmond explains that they cannot reward Saito, since he is a commoner. Saito then states that he is not interested in any kind of reward, just being able to speak a few words in private with the director.
Saito explains that he actually comes from another world, also talks about the true nature of the Staff and asks Osmond about its origin. The director tells him about an event in his youth, when he was fighting a dragon and was helped by a man an American marine from World War II who carried a rocket launcher , which he used to kill the dragon, but died shortly after for numerous injuries to his body.
Osmond further explains that the man spoke a strange language and that he carried another weapon just like the first with him.
