The chorus of the song is backed up by very upbeat guitar. Each line of lyrics being introduced by two strums of guitar gives it a sort of back and forth interaction between singer and music. A very interesting part of the song is when the lyrics sing about Debbie hating time and wishing it could stop, and then the music completely stops and is replaced by a ticking clock sound.
The song has the underlying message that you never know what you miss unless you take chances, as exampled by the fictional Debbie in which she leads an unfulfilled life rather than doing what she actually wanted to do. I recommend this song to anyone who is remotely into rock. Overall, is a great song to add to your playlist for jamming to during a car ride, for workouts, or just general enjoyment. Bowling For Soup. It really saddens me that Mitch allowed a band cover the song that did not understand the meaning of the song itself.
This is evident in that they excluded a rather important verse. It changes the song from, " her life sucks Not to mention, Bowling For Soup threw in more eighties references like they were jokes in a Michael Bay movie.
And not just in place of that verse but the following verses as well. It's pretty obvious that the 'rubber' and 'ass' references were covered up for radio airplay as well.
Bowling For Soup turned the song from a story about Debbie to a rant about how times have changed. SR has the better version. Maybe with an official state-side release, we may get some airplay with the better version. The album was replaced with a "tour edition" of the CD with the questionable song missing. The melody was very similar to Punk Rock It has become a running gag in Bowling for Soup's music videos to feature previous songs of theirs as an introduction for the video.
