As your breastfed baby has grown, he or she has become a more efficient sucker, so feedings will gradually grow shorter unless your child just wants to be comforted.
Don't worry if your child is done after five minutes on each breast or after 10 minutes on one breast, your baby has probably gotten all of the nourishment he or she needs. As your child grows older, this question may become more prevalent in your mind. While some parents put their child on a schedule as soon as possible, other parents wait until they're sure their baby is growing at the right pace before placing them on a schedule. Deciding whether to feed your baby on a schedule parent-led or on-demand child-led is completely up to you.
Other parents believe strongly that feedings should be on-demand. Neither choice is wrong as long as the child is healthy and growing. If you're worried that your child isn't eating enough, there are a few cues to look for to see if your child is being adequately nourished. We swaddle her when she is getting sleepy and give her a paci….. At night we can put her down before she sleep but most naps we put her down when she is barely woke and she sleeps between 45mims and 2 hours.
Also, what happens when your child wakes at a different time in the morning? Do you still try and stick to the schedule? If baby wakes up earlier or later just adjust the timing to space it out the same amount so if baby wakes up earlier, then bed time is earlier and if baby wakes up later than bed time is later. When do you pump for the evening bottles? Also, since baby is drinking bottles throughout the night, do you pump then? Hi Stefanie! I would pump the bottle when my husband was giving the bottle during that time, so around 8pm.
I would usually pump extra to last until bed time. Then if she got up in the middle of the night I would nurse. This looks like a great schedule and I look forward to modeling it with my soon to be four month old son. My question is- what method did you use for getting your child to nap and go to sleep independently at this age?
